Chiefs defeat Colts 33-30 in overtime, Mahomes throws for 382 yards
Kansas City rallied in overtime to beat Indianapolis 33-30, improving to 2-0 while Patrick Mahomes posted 382 passing yards and three touchdowns.
Kansas City secured a 33-30 overtime win against Indianapolis on Sunday night, extending its unbeaten start to 2-0. After both teams exchanged field goals in the extra period, Harrison Butker converted a 40-yard kick that followed a crucial third-down play by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and running back Kenneth Walker, sealing the victory.
Mahomes completed 32 of 47 passes for 382 yards and three touchdowns, also adding 17 rushing yards on two carries. Walker contributed 117 rushing yards on 24 attempts and caught six passes for 61 yards. Tight end Travis Kelce led the Chiefs with nine receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Xavier Worthy and Jalen Royals each added a score.
The Colts tied the game at 30-30 late in regulation and briefly appeared to win in overtime when Laquon Treadwell recovered a deep pass, but a review determined he had been down before the ball was secured, nullifying the play. Indianapolis later forced a field goal to tie again before Kansas City’s winning drive.
Indianapolis quarterback Daniel Jones threw for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Running back Jonathan Taylor rushed for 92 yards and two touchdowns and added 40 receiving yards. The Colts suffered injuries to receiver Alec Pierce, who re-injured a surgically repaired heel, and cornerback Charvarius Ward, who left with a groin strain; safety Sauce Gardner also required treatment.
Kansas City will travel to Miami to face the Dolphins next week, while the win marked the Chiefs’ eighth straight regular-season overtime victory, matching the NFL record set by the 49ers between 2003 and 2010.
