Chiefs and Colts trade leads in Sunday Night Football, finish tied 27-27
Patrick Mahomes and Jonathan Taylor each threw touchdown passes as Kansas City and Indianapolis exchanged leads before the game ended in a 27-27 draw.
Kansas City and Indianapolis traded scores throughout Sunday Night Football, with the contest finishing in a 27-27 tie. Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes, to Travis Kelce and Xavier Worthy, while rookie Jalen Royals caught his first career touchdown from Mahomes on a play-action pass. Jonathan Taylor led the Colts with 19 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns, including a 24-yard run before halftime.
The Colts opened the scoring on a Daniel Jones pass to Tyler Warren and later added a field goal by Spencer Schrader. The Chiefs responded with a short field goal by Harrison Butker after a turnover, and later extended their lead with a 51-yard kick. Both teams missed opportunities due to penalties and a controversial spot on a third-down pass to Keenan Allen.
In the second half, the Chiefs tied the game with a field goal, but the Colts reclaimed the lead on a Taylor rushing touchdown. Kansas City answered with a short field goal and a Worthy touchdown reception. The game remained level after a late field goal by Butker, and the final drive saw Taylor score again to knot the game.
"He is not putting weight on his leg," Melissa Stark said of Colts receiver Alec Pierce, who left the game with a heel injury.
Both teams finished with strong rushing performances: Taylor recorded 13 carries for 74 yards before halftime, while the Chiefs' backup Emmett Johnson contributed a 27-yard drive before a holding penalty stalled the offense.
