Ole Miss beats LSU 32-24 as record crowd watches Lane Kiffin return
Ole Miss defeated LSU 32-24 on September 14 in Oxford, Mississippi, where an estimated 300,000 visitors gathered to watch former coach Lane Kiffin return to face his old team. The victory marked the first meeting between the schools since Kiffin left Ole Miss for LSU ten months earlier. Kiffin’s return prompted heightened security measures; state police and university officials said they were arranging additional protection, while Governor Tate Reeves clarified that the Mississippi National Guard would not be deployed.
Ole Miss banned LSU colors in the student section and warned that anyone wearing them would be removed. Kiffin’s daughter, an Ole Miss student, condemned vulgar banners alleging a sexual relationship with a former player. The governor later mocked LSU’s financial commitments on social media.
