Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding expenses linked to Russian oligarch

Resumen

ProPublica reported that a Russian businessman funded several post-wedding celebrations for Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson, prompting the couple to address the allegations on social media.

ProPublica disclosed that Umar Kremlev, a Russian businessman and head of the International Boxing Association with known ties to President Vladimir Putin, paid for two nights of celebrations following Donald Trump Jr.'s May wedding to Bettina Anderson. The events, described by the couple as hosted by Kremlev, included a private island rental, fireworks and performances.

In an Instagram post, Anderson noted that Kremlev was not present at the actual ceremony in the Bahamas on May 22, but later “generously hosted two incredible nights of celebrations.” She added that “generosity doesn’t automatically come with an agenda” and that a wedding gift can simply be a gift.

Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr.'s brother, told ProPublica he had “absolutely no clue” who Kremlev is. The report also highlighted that Donald Trump Jr. is reported to have a net worth of around $300 million, suggesting the wedding could have been financed without external assistance.

The revelations have raised questions about the propriety of accepting lavish gifts from individuals linked to foreign governments, a concern that has been noted in previous reporting on the Trump family’s financial dealings.
