Lions survive Saints comeback to stay unbeaten ahead of Week 2 matchup

Resumen

Detroit held on for a 21-20 overtime win over New Orleans despite a second-half rally, and will travel to face the Buffalo Bills in Week 2.

Detroit kept its perfect start with a 21-20 overtime victory over the New Orleans Saints after nearly surrendering a 21-0 lead. The Lions' defense forced a two-point conversion attempt to fall incomplete in overtime, preserving the win. Head coach Dan Campbell said the team needed to improve offensive efficiency, noting the offense "spit and sputtered" while the Saints gained momentum.

"I’m like, man, we’ve got to be more efficient on offense," Campbell said.

Quarterback Jared Goff credited new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing for stabilizing the unit, saying Petzing "adjusted good" and helped the team execute key plays. Petzing, who joined from Arizona, orchestrated a 10-play, 70-yard drive that ended with a touchdown catch by wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown in overtime. The win came as the Lions' secondary showed vulnerabilities that could be a concern for the rest of the season.

"He settled us down when we needed it and got us into the right plays," Goff added.

Detroit now prepares for a Thursday night road game against the Buffalo Bills, who will open their new stadium in the upcoming Week 2 contest.
