Watson throws early interception as Browns fall behind Jaguars
Cleveland quarterback Deshaun Watson intercepted on the second drive of the season, and Jacksonville's Trevor Lawrence connected with Parker Washington for a touchdown, giving the Jaguars an early lead.
Deshaun Watson threw his first turnover of the 2026 season five plays into the Cleveland Browns' opening game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. After completing a 14-yard pass and a 9-yard pass on the opening series, Watson was intercepted by Jaguars linebacker Foyesade Oluokun, who returned the ball to the Jaguars' 41-yard line.
Following the turnover, Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence delivered a 30-yard pass to Parker Washington for a touchdown, putting the Jaguars ahead early in the first quarter.
Watson previously faced criticism from Browns fans during the preseason, prompting a public comment in which he described the reaction as “disrespectful.” He later apologized for his remarks. Former NFL coach Rex Ryan suggested on a sports program that the Browns should have considered benching Watson, while backup quarterback Shedeur Sanders remains available should the team decide to make a change.
