Vikings lead NFC North in Week 2 power rankings
Minnesota remains unbeaten at 2-0, highlighted by a strong defensive performance and a pending return from quarterback Kyler Murray’s concussion.
The Minnesota Vikings entered Week 3 as the only unbeaten team in the NFC North, improving to 2-0 with both victories coming in division games. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores has emphasized an aggressive blitz strategy, targeting opposing quarterbacks on roughly 80% of dropbacks, a rate that has helped limit opponents to low scoring outputs. The Vikings held the Chicago Bears to three points despite the Bears’ 59-point outburst in Week 1.
"DT being our closer, finishing the whole thing," Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said after the win.
The offense, however, ranks at the bottom of the league in total yardage, and the team is awaiting the return of quarterback Kyler Murray, who has missed time with a concussion. Murray has taken 11 snaps so far this season and is expected to resume duties in Week 3.
Across the league, the power rankings placed the Buffalo Bills at the top, while the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons occupied the bottom spots after starting 0-2. Notable comments included Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley acknowledging second-half shortcomings and Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. noting the need to address team frustrations.
Other teams highlighted in the rankings include the Kansas City Chiefs, who benefited from running back Kenneth Walker’s impact, and the San Francisco 49ers, whose point differential of +42 placed them near the top of the list. The Seattle Seahawks also remained unbeaten, with strong defensive showings and standout performances from receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
The rankings provide a snapshot of early-season strengths and weaknesses as teams look to build momentum heading into the third week of the NFL season.
