Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang becomes key adviser to President Trump on AI policy

Resumen

Jensen Huang, chief executive of Nvidia, has been consulting with President Donald Trump on artificial-intelligence regulation and trade, while the chipmaker pushes for faster AI development and continued sales to China.

President Donald Trump spoke with Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang during the All-In Summit in Los Angeles, telling the chipmaker’s leader that "the robots are not going to be taking over the world." The call, which placed Trump on speaker, underscored Huang’s growing influence on the administration’s AI agenda.

Huang, whose company supplies the graphics processing units that power models from OpenAI, Anthropic and other firms, is expected to attend a state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping next week, a source familiar with the plans said. Nvidia’s revenue rose to $215 billion in the latest fiscal year, up sharply from $17 billion the year before.

"Trump just likes winners, and Jensen's very good at speaking his language," said Samuel Hammond, director of AI policy at the Foundation for American Innovation. A White House spokesperson declined to comment, and Nvidia did not respond to requests for remarks.

While some AI developers, including OpenAI and Anthropic, have called for tighter government oversight after recent security incidents, Huang has downplayed the risks. Speaking in Scotland, he described safety concerns as "predictions of doom" not supported by science and said the solution lies in "good old-fashioned engineering," adding that past incidents had "did no harm."

The relationship follows earlier cooperation on export controls. In December, Trump announced that Nvidia would be allowed to ship its H200 chip to Chinese customers in exchange for a 25 percent fee to the U.S. Treasury, a move criticized by several members of Congress.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told a House hearing that the president is "completely aligned with Jensen Huang," highlighting the CEO’s role in shaping U.S. AI policy as the White House prepares a meeting with leading AI executives alongside the upcoming state dinner.
