NBC adds additional security measures to Today show studio
NBC has installed new security layers at its Today show studio in New York after two incidents, including the kidnapping of co-anchor Savannah Guthrie's mother and a breach by a man who confronted staff.
NBC has reinforced security at the Today show’s studios in New York’s 30 Rockefeller Center, adding multiple new layers of protection, insiders said. The upgrades come after two incidents that raised concerns about safety. In February, Nancy Guthrie, mother of co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was abducted from her home in Arizona and remains missing. A later incident in July involved a man identified as Andrew Truelove who entered the area just outside the studio, confronted co-anchor Craig Melvin, used a racial slur and asked for Al Roker before being detained by security. A guard was subsequently dismissed for failing to prevent the breach. Employees of the program have reportedly welcomed the heightened measures, describing them as overdue and necessary. Savannah Guthrie recently spoke about her mother ahead of the show's planned trip to Ireland, noting her family’s Irish heritage.
