Netflix cancels romantic neo-western series "Ransom Canyon" after two seasons
Netflix announced the cancellation of the romantic neo-western drama "Ransom Canyon" after its second season, citing a decline in viewership.
Netflix confirmed that the romantic neo-western series "Ransom Canyon" will not return for a third season. The show, which follows rancher Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) and dancehall owner Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly) in Texas Hill Country, debuted in April 2025 and released its eight-episode second season in July 2026. Viewership dropped from 7.2 million streams in the first week of season 1 to 4.1 million in the opening week of season 2, a decline that likely influenced the decision.
The series, based on Jodi Thomas’s book series, also features Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher and Casey W. Johnson. In an April 2025 interview, creator and showrunner April Blair cited the Paramount Network series "Yellowstone" and its prequel "1923" as inspirations, noting that writer Taylor Sheridan “redefined contemporary westerns and this Americana aesthetic.”
"Ransom Canyon" remains available for streaming on Netflix.
