Emmy producers reveal Taylor Swift SVU sketch and host Mariska Hargitay's star-power role
According to Deadline, producers of the 78th Emmy Awards said on 15 September that the surprise pre-recorded Law & Order: SVU parody starring Taylor Swift was crafted to showcase the star’s comedic side and that host Mariska Hargitay’s extensive preparation and industry connections were key to securing such high-profile talent. TODAY. com reported that Hargitay, who hosted the ceremony on 14 September in Los Angeles, became the first woman to do so since 2011 and appeared in at least 13 different outfits, including a red sequined gown reminiscent of her mother Jayne Mansfield’s 1956 look.
USA Today noted that she teased additional surprises, joked about a wardrobe slip on the carpet, and confirmed she would sing and dance during the show. Variety noted that the broadcast opened with a pre-recorded segment featuring NBA player Jalen Brunson and later included a Dolly Parton tribute performed by Reba McEntire. Yahoo highlighted that a press preview earlier in September showed Hargitay in a sequined skirt suit, underscoring her role as the first female host since 2011.
