Seahawks optimistic about Sam Darnold's hip injury and confident in Drew Lock

Resumen

The Seattle Seahawks said quarterback Sam Darnold avoided a fracture and expect an update on his condition Monday, while expressing confidence in backup Drew Lock ahead of the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Seattle’s medical staff confirmed that Sam Darnold’s hip injury did not involve a fracture, allowing the team to focus on a recovery plan. General manager John Macdonald said the news was positive and that the team expects to have a clearer picture of the treatment plan by Monday.

"It’s been positive news, so right now we’re working through the extent of the injury and then putting a plan in place to get back rocking and rolling," Macdonald said on Thursday.

The Seahawks have an extra day before their next game and plan to resume full practice on Monday. No decisions about Darnold’s status have been made, and an additional update is scheduled for that day.

In the meantime, the organization expressed confidence in backup quarterback Drew Lock, who played in a recent Wednesday night game.

"I thought Drew played great. It’s awesome. Ball’s never in jeopardy. He’s been tremendous. He operates like a starter does in terms of preparation," Macdonald added. He praised Lock’s composure and the supportive atmosphere in the quarterback room.

Seattle will use the weekend to rest before traveling to Arizona for a September 20 matchup with the Cardinals. Subsequent games include a visit to Washington, D.C., and home contests against the Chargers and 49ers later in the month.
