Seahawks face multiple injuries ahead of Cardinals matchup
Seattle will be without quarterback Sam Darnold and safety Ty Okada on Sunday, while safety Nick Emmanwori and guard Anthony Bradford remain questionable as the team prepares for the game in Arizona.
Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald said quarterback Sam Darnold will miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals after sustaining a glute injury last week, and backup Drew Lock will start. Macdonald described Darnold’s rehabilitation as progressing well but cautioned that the timeline for his return is uncertain.
Safety Nick Emmanwori, who is recovering from ankle surgery and now listed with a hip injury, was limited in practice all week and is listed as questionable. Macdonald noted Emmanwori is doing a good job but did not provide details on his condition.
Right guard Anthony Bradford, who has dealt with knee and hip issues, also is a questionable starter. If he cannot play, third-year lineman Christian Haynes is expected to fill in.
Wide receiver Tory Horton, who missed the latter part of last season with a shin injury and more recent hamstring problems, returned to full practice and is slated to play, adding depth to a receiving corps that includes Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp and Rashid Shaheed.
Rodney Thomas II, who substituted for the injured Ty Okada against the Patriots, is likely to start again at safety. Macdonald praised Thomas’s performance, saying the team needs players who play great football.
Running back Zach Charbonnet remains on the physically unable to perform list after ACL surgery but could resume practice soon, according to Macdonald.
First-round rookie Jadarian Price is expected to receive a larger workload at running back on Sunday, after a cautious debut against the Patriots. Offensive coordinator Brian Fleury said the team will continue to develop Price’s role gradually.
