Comedy duo renames 'South Park' as 'South America' to mock Trump
Trey Parker and Matt Stone said the long-running animated series will be titled 'South America' for its 29th season, satirizing President Trump's lake-renaming order and referencing a recent settlement involving Paramount and Skydance Media.
The creators of the long-running animated comedy announced that the show will be retitled “South America” for its upcoming 29th season, a move intended to lampoon President Donald Trump’s recent decision to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America. The name change was posted on social media on Tuesday and references the tech companies that briefly reflected Trump’s order on their mapping services.
Parker and Stone also used the announcement to criticize their parent company Paramount and its new owner Skydance Media, noting a $16 million settlement related to a lawsuit filed by the Trump administration over a “60 Minutes” segment tied to Paramount’s merger with Skydance.
"The Left’s hypocrisy truly has no end — for years they have come after ‘South Park’ for what they labeled as ‘offense’ content, but suddenly they are praising the show," White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said in a statement to Variety.
The series recently won an Emmy for outstanding animated program, and the creators have a five-year, $1.5 billion streaming deal with Paramount+. The 29th season, now titled “South America,” is scheduled to premiere on September 16 at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central.
