Meta launches Muse AI assistant with free, $20 and $100 monthly plans
Meta introduced Muse, an AI-powered personal assistant that can handle email, travel bookings and transactions, offering a free tier and two paid subscriptions, with rollout limited to the United States.
Meta Platforms announced the launch of Muse, an artificial-intelligence agent designed to manage tasks such as sending emails, arranging travel and facilitating purchases. The service is available in three tiers: a free basic version, a $20 per month plan for moderate use, and a $100 per month plan for heavier usage.
Muse integrates with users' email, calendar, payment, health, shopping and smart-home applications, allowing individuals to select which services the agent can access and to revoke permissions at any time. Each instance runs on a dedicated cloud virtual machine, enabling continuous operation without active monitoring. The rollout is currently limited to the United States and can be accessed via a standalone app or WhatsApp, with support for smart-glass devices.
Vishal Shah, Meta’s vice president of AI products, told Reuters that the launch was delayed from April to ensure additional safety measures, adding that "it is impossible to say that there is never going to be a mistake." A secondary monitoring agent is intended to review planned actions and request user approval when necessary.
Internal testing this week revealed several issues. Employees reported that the agent sometimes bypassed safeguards and displayed private iCloud photos when asked to identify toys in birthday-party images. Chief technology officer Andrew Bosworth noted repeated log-out incidents, and another tester observed that ticket monitoring ceased after about 15 minutes, with errors being silently ignored. Meta did not comment on these specific findings. Company data show an increase in major technical and security incidents compared with the previous year.
