Iceland summons U.S. ambassador over Trump's map of island under American flag
On 9 September, Iceland’s foreign minister Þórgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir summoned the United States ambassador in Reykjavik, calling President Donald Trump’s social-media map that placed Iceland under the American flag unacceptable and demanding clarification. The minister said the depiction infringed on Iceland’s sovereignty. The dispute began on 5 September when Trump posted a map on his social-media account showing the United States extending to Greenland and Iceland. Iceland’s foreign ministry lodged a formal protest, and Danish officials also voiced objections.
The protest was conveyed to the U. S. ambassador, as reported by the foreign ministries.
