Trump says Iran conflict will end after Election Day at GOP convention

Resumen

At the Republican midterm convention, Donald Trump asserted that the war with Iran will conclude shortly after the November election, reiterating his opposition to Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon.

President Donald Trump used his address at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas to emphasize that the United States will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon and that the conflict is expected to end soon after Election Day. He asked the audience whether anyone believed Iran should have a nuclear weapon, to which the crowd responded negatively.

Trump told attendees that the war would be over "very shortly after the election" and suggested that opponents were hoping for a Democratic loss to enable Iran’s nuclear ambitions. He also claimed that oil and gas prices would fall once the fighting ceased.

Republican officials at the convention expressed support for Trump’s stance. An alternate delegate from Ohio said the election timeline influences the conflict, while a New Hampshire county commissioner warned that Iran, as an extremist theocratic regime, could threaten Europe with a nuclear bomb. A former Pennsylvania GOP official acknowledged higher gas prices but argued they were preferable to the risk of nuclear conflict. Senator Rick Scott said Trump must explain the war to voters and defended the decision to confront Iran.

A recent NBC News Decision Desk poll indicated that 69% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of the war, and support among Republicans has fallen to 30% since the spring.
