Texas jumps to No. 1 in AP Top 25 after comeback win over Ohio State
Texas moved to the top of the AP college football poll after a late comeback beat Ohio State, while Ohio State fell five spots and Oklahoma dropped 13 places following recent losses.
Texas claimed the No. 1 spot in the latest AP Top 25 college football poll after rallying to defeat Ohio State by one point, a win that bolstered its resume for a potential at-large playoff bid. Ohio State, which had led by 20 points before the comeback, dropped five positions, and Oklahoma fell 13 spots after a loss to Michigan.
The poll also saw Indiana and Miami move up after victories over lower-division opponents, while BYU rose four spots following a win over Arizona. Oregon, despite a tough schedule that includes games against USC, Ohio State, Michigan and Washington, slipped to No. 21 after a narrow loss to Boise State and a defeat by Oklahoma State.
"Winning and losing is still king," a poll analyst said, noting that the rankings continue to prioritize results over strength of schedule.
The changes reflect the early-season volatility of the college football landscape, with the Michigan Wolverines re-entering playoff discussions after beating a top-11 SEC team. The poll’s shifts underscore the emphasis the selection committee places on game outcomes when evaluating teams for postseason consideration.
