Amazon suspends flights with 21 Air after Miami cargo crash
Amazon announced on September 14 that it is suspending all flights operated by cargo carrier 21 Air after a Boeing 767-300 cargo plane overran the runway at Miami International Airport on September 6, killing five ground workers and injuring five others. The aircraft, operated by 21 Air for Amazon, struck a cleaning-service van and a nearby vehicle, igniting a fire. The National Transportation Safety Board later reported that the crew failed to deploy thrust reversers or speed brakes and that pilots warned each other about excessive speed before the crash.
Investigators have recovered the flight-data and cockpit-voice recorders and are reviewing the evidence. The incident prompted a ground stop and the closure of two of the airport’s four runways, causing widespread flight delays.
