Pink Calls for Refunds After Macklemore's Pro-Palestinian Remarks at Ed Sheeran Concerts

Resumen

Pink urged refunds for attendees of Ed Sheeran's MetLife Stadium shows after opening act Macklemore expressed pro-Palestinian views, sparking debate over political statements at concerts.

Singer Pink reposted a Stop Antisemitism message on Instagram after Macklemore performed as the opening act for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 4 and 5. The repost criticized Macklemore's remarks supporting Palestine and suggested concertgoers should receive apologies and refunds.

During his set, Macklemore wore a keffiyeh, told the audience "Free Palestine," and performed his protest song "Hind's Hall," while stadium screens displayed pro-Palestinian imagery. He also referenced the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

"Fans did not expect political messaging from an opening act and deserve refunds," Pink wrote in the shared post.

The reaction divided social-media users, with some agreeing that attendees should not be charged for a performance that included political content, while others argued that artists have the right to express their views on stage.

Ed Sheeran's official tour page continues to list Macklemore as a supporting act for upcoming U.S. dates, and as of Sept. 7, Sheeran had not announced any refunds or indicated plans to remove Macklemore from the lineup.

Macklemore has a history of supporting Palestinian causes in his music, and other artists such as Massive Attack have also featured pro-Palestinian material in recent shows, highlighting an ongoing trend of musicians addressing the conflict during live performances.
