Vikings debut new quarterback against Packers in Week 1
The Minnesota Vikings open the 2026 season at home versus the Green Bay Packers, with Kyler Murray starting at quarterback and Green Bay missing Josh Jacobs and Micah Parsons.
Minnesota will open its 2026 regular season on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium against the Green Bay Packers, featuring veteran quarterback Kyler Murray in his first full start for the Vikings. Head coach Kevin O'Connell selected Murray after a competition with second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy, while former starter Carson Wentz remains the third-string option.
The Vikings hope Murray can boost the production of All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who recorded 84 catches for 1,048 yards and two touchdowns in 2025 and was ranked No. 19 on the NFL Top 100.
Green Bay will be without running back Josh Jacobs, who was placed on the commissioner's exempt list after pleading no contest to battery and criminal-damage charges, and linebacker Micah Parsons, who is recovering from a torn ACL sustained in December.
The game is scheduled to begin at 3:25 p.m. ET on September 13 and will be broadcast locally on WCCO-TV. It can also be streamed via Paramount+ and NFL+.
Betting odds from CBS Sports list the Vikings as 1.5-point favorites. The two teams last met on Jan. 4 in Minneapolis, with Minnesota winning 16-3. Historically, the Packers lead the series 67-61-3.
The Vikings' Week 2 matchup is at Chicago, while the Packers travel to New York. Both clubs have full 2026 schedules outlined through the season.
