Police investigate violent Portsmouth protest after migrant landing clashes
Police launched an investigation on 7 September after a protest at Eastney Landing in Portsmouth turned violent, injuring officers and damaging vehicles, officials said. The probe aims to identify participants in the masked demonstration that clashed with officers. The incident followed a series of anti-immigration demonstrations on 5 September, when hundreds of masked demonstrators blocked access to the Port of Dover, creating a four-mile traffic jam and halting ferry services to France.
Police restored traffic after several hours. A similar protest by the Patriot Platform took place in Portsmouth, prompting condemnation from government officials who warned that illegal actions would be prosecuted.
