Trump says ending Ukraine war could restore U.S.-Russia relations, Kremlin says

Resumen

The Kremlin reported that President Trump told President Putin a quick resolution to the Ukraine conflict would allow full restoration of trade and economic ties between the United States and Russia.

President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin that a rapid end to the war in Ukraine could lead to the full restoration of trade and economic relations between the two countries, a Kremlin aide said. The conversation, which lasted about an hour, was described as "constructive and very candid" by Kremlin spokesman Yuri Ushakov.

During the call, Trump emphasized his desire for the conflict to end "as soon as possible," while Putin provided what Ushakov called an "objective and thorough" assessment of Russia's military operation. Trump reportedly said that a swift conclusion to Russia's full-scale invasion would "immediately open up impressive and far-reaching prospects for relations between the US and Russia to be fully restored."

The leaders also discussed recent visits by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv, which aimed to revive stalled diplomatic efforts. Russia has resumed air attacks on major Ukrainian cities after a brief pause during the negotiators' visit, prompting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to criticize the international response as insufficient. A White House spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
