Illinois mother charged with murder after killing 2-year-old son and attempting suicide

Résumé

Corie A. Walsh, 40, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder after her 2-year-old son was found dead in a basement and she was discovered injured in a bathtub in Frankfort, Illinois.

Police in Frankfort, Illinois, charged Corie A. Walsh, 40, with three counts of first-degree murder after a 2-year-old boy was found dead in the basement of her home and Walsh was discovered injured in a bathtub. The incident was reported shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday when officers responded to a call about an unresponsive child. A neighbor performing CPR on the toddler found him already cold and without a pulse; he was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The Will County Coroner’s Office classified the death as an apparent homicide caused by asphyxia from ligature compression of the neck.

Walsh was located in the upstairs master bedroom bathroom, fully dressed in a tub surrounded by water, with cuts to her wrists and thighs. She was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and remains in custody. Prosecutors said Walsh told officers she killed her son because she believed he was “the devil” and the “anti-Christ,” and that she had discussed the Lindsay Clancy murder trial extensively in group messages prior to the incident.

Authorities indicated the case appears to be a domestic-related homicide. Walsh’s husband was out of town, and two school-aged children who returned home were unharmed. An infant also remained safe in the house. Walsh is being held for medical treatment and will be transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility pending further proceedings.
