North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick said on September 7 that the Tar Heels football program continues to operate in full compliance with university regulations, while the school’s investigation proceeds, and he declined to provide further details. The probe began on September 3 when general manager Michael Lombardi resigned amid a university inquiry into alleged drug use and improper relationships.

Investigators later broadened the scope to include defensive coordinator Steve Belichick and recruiting staff, and reports indicated the inquiry could trigger a for-cause termination if the coach failed to report misconduct. Earlier, Belichick had told reporters the program was fully compliant and defended its culture as the investigation unfolded.
