Barry Morphew arrested on outstanding warrant as prosecutors seek stricter bond conditions

Resumen

Barry Morphew was taken into custody in Boulder County on a warrant related to alleged bond violations, and prosecutors have filed a request to tighten his bail conditions ahead of a September 8 hearing.

Barry Morphew, who is already facing a murder charge in the death of his wife Suzanne Morphew, was arrested Thursday night in Boulder County around 9:11 p.m. on an outstanding warrant issued by Alamosa County for failure to comply with bond conditions, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

The warrant follows a prosecution motion to modify Morphew’s bond after authorities allege he violated GPS home-detention rules. Prosecutors claim that while under GPS monitoring, Morphew was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Denver on Aug. 26, striking two vehicles, offering money to one driver to avoid police involvement, refusing to identify himself and fleeing the scene. They say video footage shows him clearly, and that he did not report the crash to any authority.

In a filing, prosecutors argued that the current bond conditions do not adequately address the risk of flight and requested several changes, including ending all GPS exceptions, confining Morphew to his home, requiring verified proof of presence at any approved work site, prohibiting him from operating a motor vehicle, requiring proof of vehicle registration, expanding the no-new-offenses clause to cover misdemeanors and traffic offenses, and increasing the financial terms of the bond. A bond hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8 in Alamosa District Court.
