Warriors forward proposes redistribution of Clippers' forfeited draft picks

Resumen

Draymond Green suggested that the NBA allocate the Los Angeles Clippers' lost draft selections to other teams to preserve a full draft, after the league penalized the Clippers for salary-cap violations.

The NBA has ordered the Los Angeles Clippers to forfeit their first-round draft picks from 2029 through 2033 as part of a penalty for salary-cap circumvention, reducing the total number of selections in upcoming drafts. Warriors forward Draymond Green discussed a proposal on his podcast, "The Drymond Green Show," urging the league to reassign the forfeited picks to other teams so that the draft remains at 60 selections.

"When draft picks are taken away, it reduces the pool of players who get a chance to be selected. The league should consider a system that redistributes those picks, perhaps through a lottery, to maintain fairness for prospects and teams," Green said.

The investigation into the Clippers began in September 2025 after reports linked a former endorsement deal involving Kawhi Leonard to potential rule violations. The league concluded the team was guilty, imposing a $30 million fine, a one-year suspension for owner Steve Ballmer, and the loss of the draft picks. A proposed trade of Leonard to the Toronto Raptors was also halted during the inquiry.

Green's suggestion has not been formally considered by the NBA, but it highlights an alternative approach to penalizing a team while preserving the integrity of the draft process.
