Uber to eliminate about 3,300 positions as it restructures for faster decision-making

Resumen

Uber announced plans to cut roughly 10% of its workforce, about 3,300 jobs, to simplify its organization and redirect savings toward growth and innovation.

Uber said it will lay off approximately 3,300 employees, representing about 10% of its global staff, as part of a restructuring aimed at simplifying the company’s hierarchy and accelerating decision-making. In a memo to staff, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi explained that the cuts will remove management layers, reduce the number of small "micro-teams" and consolidate operations in fewer key hubs such as New York and San Francisco. > "The changes we’re making today are designed to do two things: make Uber simpler and faster, and create more capacity to invest in our future," Khosrowshahi wrote. He added that a leaner organization will provide clearer ownership, faster decisions and more time for building rather than coordinating, and that the resulting savings will be reinvested in growth and innovation. The restructuring also includes a 20% reduction in employees positioned seven or more layers below the CEO and a near-50% cut in teams with only one or two direct reports. Uber will ask most remote workers to relocate to an office and will limit remote work to about 1% of its workforce, while maintaining a three-day-per-week office requirement.
