Florida Governor Offers Asylum to Unidentified Juror in Lindsay Clancy Trial

Resumen

Governor Ron DeSantis said Florida would provide asylum to the unnamed juror who voted against acquitting Lindsay Clancy, after the juror’s vote led to a mistrial in the Massachusetts case.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said the state would offer asylum to the unidentified juror who voted against a not-guilty verdict for Lindsay Clancy, whose trial ended in a mistrial after the panel split 11-1. The juror, described by other jurors as a Black man in his 30s, had prevented a unanimous decision that Clancy acted because of a mental disease or defect.

Clancy, who has not denied killing her three children, claimed she was suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time of the killings. Prosecutors argued she understood her actions. The judge declared a mistrial, and a retrial has not yet been scheduled.

In response to a local news report about the juror’s past domestic-violence charge, DeSantis posted on X that the media was attempting to smear the juror and that Florida would protect him if he faced harassment.

"A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected. Another low for legacy media," DeSantis wrote.

"If the juror is being harassed, Florida will provide asylum — I’m sure he’d be welcomed and appreciated," he added.
