Attorney defends ex-husband of Massachusetts mother amid online conspiracy attacks

Summary

Lawyer for Lindsay Clancy says her ex-husband, cleared as a suspect, is facing a wave of false online accusations and urges an end to the misinformation.

Attorney Kevin Reddington told CBS Mornings that Patrick Clancy, who was eliminated as a suspect early in the investigation, has endured a "horrific" period of online harassment and should be allowed to move on with his life. He noted that despite the extensive public scrutiny, the ex-husband has continued to support Lindsay Clancy in the pending legal matters.

The trial of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children, ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4 after a jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. Evidence presented at trial placed Patrick Clarity at a pharmacy during the time the killings are believed to have occurred, and a 911 call he made after discovering the children has not been widely heard.

Patrick Clancy’s attorney Howard Cooper urged an immediate halt to the spread of false claims online, describing the campaign as “relentless, escalating and destructive” and attributing it to minor celebrities and influencers seeking attention. Cooper said law enforcement has been notified and legal action will be pursued against those responsible.

Lindsay Clancy remains in state custody at a psychiatric hospital on three first-degree murder charges, with the next hearing set for Sept. 29.
