Attorney says Patrick Clancy receiving threats amid online defamation campaign after children's murder mistrial

Résumé

Patrick Clancy's lawyer alleges the family is facing threats and false accusations spread by social-media personalities following the mistrial in the case of his ex-wife Lindsay Clancy.

Patrick Clancy's attorney, Howard Cooper, told Boston 25 News that the family has been subjected to a sustained defamation effort by social-media personalities and conspiracy theorists who claim he was involved in the deaths of his three children. Cooper said the misinformation intensified after the recent mistrial in the case involving his ex-wife, Lindsay Clancy, and has led to “real-life threats to his reputation, livelihood, and life.”

"Enough is enough — this spread of blatant and baseless falsehoods must stop. Those responsible should understand that there will be consequences, and every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable, including legally. Law enforcement has been notified," Cooper said.

The Clancy case concerns the January 2023 killings of the children in the family home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Lindsay Clancy's defense argued she suffered severe postpartum psychosis, a claim not disputed by prosecutors, but the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict, resulting in a mistrial. Patrick Clancy has previously expressed forgiveness toward his ex-wife, describing her as ill rather than malicious. Cooper indicated the possibility of legal action against those spreading the false claims.
