Trump says Lindsay Clancy will face consequences after mistrial

Resumen

A Massachusetts jury deadlocked 11-1 in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, leading to a mistrial, after which President Donald Trump said she will still be held accountable.

President Donald Trump told reporters that Lindsay Clancy will still have to face consequences after a Massachusetts jury could not reach a unanimous verdict in the case of the deaths of her three children. During a press briefing in the Oval Office, Trump said a new trial was likely and that the outcome would involve either a mental-health facility or imprisonment.

The six-week trial, which examined whether Clancy could be held criminally responsible for strangling her children with exercise bands in January 2023, ended with a mistrial after jurors voted 11-1 to acquit. One juror remained undecided, prompting Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial.

Clancy’s defense argued that she suffered from postpartum psychosis, a severe psychiatric condition, and cited extensive medication use in the months preceding the killings. The prosecution maintained that she was responsible for the murders.

Republican lawmakers publicly criticized the mistrial, with some calling for the holdout juror’s security and labeling the outcome a miscarriage of justice. Democratic officials have not commented publicly.

Clancy’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, has filed wrongful-death and medical-malpractice lawsuits against her health-care providers, while Clancy herself has initiated a separate suit alleging negligence.

"I assume there's going to be another trial. It's a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing. Can't be worse. But you'll find out what the price to pay is. There'll be a price. It's going to be a mental institution or jail or something," Trump said.

"Out of 12 people, only ONE had the courage to hold a serial killer accountable for her actions," Rep. Michael Rulli wrote on social media.

"The victims deserved far, far better than a kangaroo court," Florida Governor Ron DeSantis posted.

The case continues to attract national attention and may proceed to a new trial later this year.
