Jury Remains Deadlocked in Lindsay Clancy Trial as Deliberations Continue

Resumen

The 12-person jury in the Lindsay Clancy case reported it could not reach a unanimous verdict, extending deliberations and raising the possibility of a mistrial.

Jurors in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial reported they remain deadlocked after six hours of deliberation on Tuesday, bringing the total time spent reviewing evidence to roughly 23 hours over four days. The panel, composed of nine women and three men, indicated it could not reach a unanimous decision, a circumstance that could eventually lead to a mistrial.

Judge William Sullivan sent the jury back to continue discussions, noting the case involves more than 80 witnesses and 300 exhibits. Courtroom observers described the jurors as solemn and straight-faced as they re-entered the room, and the judge instructed them to keep deliberating.

Defense attorney Kevin Reddington said after the hearing that his client is not emotionally prepared for a possible retrial, responding “No” when asked if she would be ready for another trial. He also said he could not determine whether the jury’s note of deadlock was a positive or negative sign, adding that the jurors were working hard to reach a decision.

Legal experts explained that a deadlocked jury does not end the trial immediately. The judge may issue a “dynamite charge,” a final set of instructions urging jurors to reach a verdict. If unanimity still cannot be achieved, the judge may declare a mistrial, after which prosecutors could decide whether to pursue a new trial or seek a change of venue.

The jury is scheduled to resume deliberations today.
