Stan Kroenke to Acquire Los Angeles Angels in $4 Billion Deal

Résumé

Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke agreed to purchase the Los Angeles Angels for a reported $4 billion, the highest price ever paid for a Major League Baseball franchise, with the transaction expected to close in early 2027.

Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke announced Tuesday that his company will buy the Los Angeles Angels, pending closing in early 2027. The sale, reported by The Athletic at $4 billion, would set a new record for a Major League Baseball franchise, surpassing the $3.9 billion paid for the San Diego Padres earlier this year.

Kroenke said the team has an "exciting future," while outgoing owner Arte Moreno expressed that his family "has been honored to steward the Angels for 23 years." The Angels were valued at $2.8 billion by Forbes in March.

The transaction follows a series of ownership changes in Los Angeles sports, including the recent sale of the Lakers and earlier sales of the Portland Trail Blazers and Seattle Seahawks. Moreno, who bought the Angels from Disney in 2003 for $180 million, oversaw five playoff appearances in his first seven seasons but the club has not reached the postseason since 2014, marking the longest active drought in the league.

Kroenke, who already holds stakes in the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Mammoth and English soccer club Arsenal, has previously won championships in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLS. The Angels, however, have not posted a winning season since 2015 and will need to improve performance despite having young players such as Zach Neto, Nolan Schanuel, Reid Detmers and Walbert Ureña on the roster.
