Alexandra Artrip urges fans to support Practical Magic sequel amid recasting debate
Former Practical Magic star Alexandra Artrip asked fans to avoid negativity and give the upcoming sequel a chance, while acknowledging the new cast members.
Former "Practical Magic" actress Alexandra Artrip responded to fan criticism of the sequel's recasting on Instagram, saying she appreciates the audience’s connection to the original film but does not want the discussion to become a platform for negativity. She praised the newly cast actresses, Maisie Williams and Joey King, and expressed confidence that the production team made the right choices for the film’s success. Artrip added that viewers should approach the sequel with an open mind, noting that the 2026 release will expand the story while preserving the legacy of the 1998 movie.
Evan Rachel Wood, who played Kylie Owens in the original, previously explained that she was not asked to return and offered to appear in a small role, but the studio decided to recast. Wood later wished King well in taking over the role. King, speaking at the Los Angeles premiere, thanked Wood for her support and described their conversation as appreciative.
The sequel will see Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprise their roles, alongside returning cast members Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing. "Practical Magic 2" is scheduled for theatrical release on September 11.
