Everton's £40 million bid for Folarin Balogun falls through after medical and player concerns

Resumen

Everton's attempt to sign striker Folarin Balogun collapsed on deadline day after a failed medical and the player's discomfort with the process, leaving Monaco to seek alternative options.

Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro said the transfer of American forward Folarin Balogun to Everton collapsed late on deadline day. According to Scuro, the player initially failed his medical, prompting Everton to reassess the deal. He added that Everton later concluded there was no medical issue and prepared to sign the contract around 11 p.m. Monaco time, and paperwork was completed. However, Balogun subsequently expressed discomfort with Everton's handling of the situation and withdrew from the agreement.

Everton had been ready to pay a £40 million fee, which would have represented a significant sum for Monaco. Scuro indicated that the club is now awaiting Balogun's return to discuss future steps and has not ruled out a move to a league outside England. He mentioned that markets such as Turkey and the Saudi Pro League remain open and that discussions are ongoing regarding Balogun and other players.

Balogun, 25, recorded 13 goals and four assists in 30 Ligue 1 matches last season, plus five goals in the Champions League, and was among the United States' top performers at the recent World Cup. Everton, which recently sold striker Beto, had limited options in the forward line, making the failed transfer a setback for manager David Moyes.

The club may look to free agents to fill the gap, but any major signings are unlikely before the January transfer window, by which time Balogun could be linked with another club.
