Jackson Koivun selected for U.S. Presidents Cup roster
U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker added 21-year-old rookie Jackson Koivun to the Presidents Cup team, marking the young player's first appearance in a major international competition.
U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker announced that 21-year-old Jackson Koivun will join the United States squad for the Presidents Cup, scheduled for Sept. 24-27 at Medinah Country Club near Chicago. Koivun turned professional in June after a distinguished collegiate career at Auburn and captured the 3M Open in only his third start on the PGA Tour.
Snedeker’s roster also includes veterans Chris Gotterup, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Jacob Bridgeman. Gotterup and Bridgeman, both 27, are making their Cup debuts after strong 2026 seasons, while Schauffele, Thomas and Cantlay have been regulars on previous teams. The lineup is rounded out by automatic qualifiers Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Wyndham Clark, Sam Burns, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa.
International captain Geoff Ogilvy selected Corey Conners, Nico Echavarria, Nick Taylor, Sungjae Im, Ryo Hisatsune and Christiaan Bezuidenhout as his six picks, with Jason Day omitted due to injury concerns. Automatic qualifiers for the International side include Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama, Min Woo Lee, Tom Kim and Ryan Fox.
Snedeker praised Koivun’s recent performance, saying, "> I think he’s a great young talent. I think he’s proven himself to go out there and do what he did at 3M and stare Scottie Scheffler down on the back nine and not blink. That was very impressive," and added that his research and conversations with coaches left him “more impressed.”
Analysts noted that Koivun’s selection deviates from the traditional reliance on points and experience, drawing a parallel to European captain Luke Donald’s earlier decision to include Ludvig Åberg in the 2023 Ryder Cup. The U.S. team, which has won every Presidents Cup since 2003, faces an International side that includes several players outside the top 60 in world rankings, though veteran talent could make the competition competitive.
