Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 May Feature New Readiness App, Strength Tracking and 128GB Storage

Resumen

Beta code for watchOS 27 and iOS 27 suggests the upcoming Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 will include a dedicated Readiness app, expanded strength-workout data, a new optical sensor and double the storage capacity.

Code discovered in the watchOS 27 and iOS 27 beta releases points to several new features that could appear on the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, which are expected to be announced later this week. A forum post on MacRumors by user "pdfu" identified a new app labeled "Readiness" in the system code. The app is listed to appear on the default Home Screen layout immediately after the Workout app, indicating a possible focus on readiness or recovery functions distinct from the existing Vitals app.

The beta also reveals an expanded health infrastructure for strength training, allowing the watch to record individual sets, repetition counts, weight, equipment used, body side and duration for each exercise. In addition, a new optical-sensing system identified as "Sunstone4p0" appears to offer lower noise and adaptive channel selection based on wrist orientation, suggesting improved heart-rate accuracy in challenging conditions.

Technical details show a NAND storage profile linked to the T8320 chip, implying the new models could ship with 128 GB of internal storage, double the 64 GB offered on current watches. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has previously reported that the upcoming watches will emphasize health and fitness enhancements.

"The placement of the Readiness app next to Workout hints at a more substantial readiness or recovery experience," the forum post noted.

The same user has previously uncovered code clues for unreleased Apple hardware, including game controllers and a four-speaker HomePod configuration.
