Apple adds dozens of new hardware identifiers ahead of upcoming product event
Apple's backend now includes nearly 40 new hardware identifiers for iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches and other devices, suggesting several products could be unveiled at the company's upcoming "Surprise and Shine" event.
Apple has updated its internal systems with almost 40 new hardware identifiers covering iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, Apple TV and home-accessory products, a move seen as preparation for its "Surprise and Shine" event scheduled for tomorrow. The identifiers include seven for iPhones, nine for Macs, eight for iPads, nine for Apple Watches, one for Apple TV and three for home-accessory items. Analysts note that the seven iPhone identifiers exceed the six models currently rumored for the iPhone 18 series, which could indicate an additional variant or a new device.
The newly added codes appear to correspond with products that have been reported in recent leaks, such as the Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, a refreshed Apple TV, a smart-home hub, M6-chip iMac and MacBook Pro models, and an OLED iPad mini. While most identifiers cannot yet be matched to specific products, the timing suggests they may be announced at the event.
"We will be at Apple Park tomorrow to cover the event live," a spokesperson for the reporting outlet said.
The company’s back-end changes are being closely watched as they often precede official product launches.
