Apple slated to unveil multiple new devices at September 9 "Surprise and Shine" event
Apple's September 9 keynote is expected to introduce at least six products, including updated Apple Watch models, new AirPods, iPhone 18 Pro series and a foldable iPhone dubbed "iPhone Ultra."
Apple will host its "Surprise and shine" event on September 9 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time from Apple Park in Cupertino, streaming on the company’s website, YouTube and the Apple TV app. The presentation will be the first keynote since John Ternus took over as chief executive on September 1.
Analysts anticipate the launch of at least six new products. The Apple Watch Series 12 is rumored to receive a new chip, enhanced fitness tracking, longer battery life and continuous heart-rate monitoring, with a possible white or dark-gray ceramic case but no major redesign. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 is expected to share the same chip and health upgrades and may see expanded satellite connectivity for Maps and photo sharing.
The next generation AirPods, dubbed AirPods 5, are projected to come in two variants—one with active noise cancellation—and to incorporate an H3 chip for better sound quality and lower latency, though a heart-rate sensor is not anticipated.
The iPhone 18 Pro line is likely to retain the previous design while adding an A20 Pro processor built on TSMC’s 2nm process, integrated RAM, a LTPO+ display, a Samsung image sensor and a simplified Camera Control button. Other expected specs include a narrower Dynamic Island, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB base storage and support for 5G satellite internet. U.S. models may continue using Qualcomm modems for mmWave, while international versions could use Apple’s C2 modem. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is expected to mirror these upgrades with a larger battery—5,391 mAh in China and 5,567 mAh in the United States—and a heavier chassis.
The headline announcement could be a foldable iPhone, reportedly called the "iPhone Ultra," featuring a passport-style design with a 5.5-inch outer and 7.8-inch inner display, a 4:3 aspect ratio, titanium-aluminum chassis, liquid-metal hinge, vapor-chamber cooling and the A20 Pro chip. It may replace Face ID with a Touch ID power button, include dual rear and dual selfie cameras, and offer storage options of 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB. The device is said to be more repairable than competing foldables.
