Florida counties begin dismantling license-plate reader cameras
Sheriff’s offices in Franklin, Liberty and Putnam counties began dismantling Flock automated license-plate reader cameras in central Florida on August 31, after a state order, the Orlando Sentinel reported. The move follows concerns about privacy and potential misuse.
Governor Ron DeSantis had directed the removal of all Flock cameras from the state highway system within 30 days, citing similar concerns. The Florida Department of Transportation subsequently revoked approvals for local police to install the devices on state right-of-way land, halting future installations.
