Apple's iPhone Ultra expected to launch at $2,199 amid component shortages

Resumen

Apple plans to unveil its first foldable iPhone, the Ultra, on September 9, with a starting price around $2,199 after a memory chip shortage raised costs.

Apple is set to hold its annual iPhone launch event on September 9, where analysts anticipate the debut of the iPhone Ultra, the company's first foldable smartphone. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman says development on the device has spanned roughly ten years.

Initial pricing targets for the Ultra were $1,999, but a shortage of memory chips and rising component costs have pushed the expected base price to about $2,199, with the top configuration—likely featuring 1TB of storage—potentially reaching $3,000.

The phone is reported to feature a 7.8-inch folding display paired with a 5.5-inch cover screen. When unfolded, its dimensions are said to be comparable to a Magic Trackpad, while folded it will be roughly passport-size. Apple is said to be using a titanium and aluminum hinge, a custom cover glass developed with Corning, and aims for construction quality it describes as "industry-leading" for foldable devices.
