Prince William Expresses Frustration Over Prince Harry's Public Role Claims
A royal source says Prince William is upset about Prince Harry's statements suggesting he remains a working member of the royal family, highlighting ongoing tension between the brothers after Harry's recent return to the UK.
A source close to the royal family said Prince William is upset that Prince Harry is presenting himself as a working royal despite the couple's 2020 agreement to step back from official duties. Harry, Meghan Markle and their children returned to the United Kingdom in late August, marking the first time the Sussexes have lived in Britain since relocating to North America six years ago.
During a recent visit to Ukraine, Harry told reporters he would always be part of the royal family and was "working and doing the very thing that I was born to do," comments that the source says have heightened William's concerns.
According to the insider, William believes Harry is attempting to resume a working role without the approval of the palace, contrary to the terms of the 2020 arrangement that required the Sussexes to give up any claim to official duties. The source added that William wants a clear distinction between those who officially represent the monarch and those who do not, echoing recent efforts to eliminate ambiguity about the Sussexes' status.
Harry, for his part, maintains that stepping back from formal duties has not stopped him from engaging in public service, a view that continues to clash with William's expectations.
