King Charles reaffirms Prince Harry and Meghan's non-working royal status
A letter from the king, sent to senior government and military officials, confirms that Prince Harry and Meghan remain non-working members of the royal family and will conduct any charitable work privately.
King Charles III has reiterated that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, continue to be non-working members of the royal family following their return to the United Kingdom. A letter on the king’s behalf, dispatched by the Lord Chamberlain to senior government, military officials and regional lord lieutenants, states the couple will keep refraining from using their royal titles and will carry out any charitable activities in a private capacity. Operational security matters are to be handled by the relevant police agencies, the letter adds.
The communication emphasizes that the information is being shared to avoid doubt or confusion, and it directs any queries about courtesies or the possible use of public funds for the Duke and Duchess to Buckingham Palace. The letter also notes that decisions on restoring publicly funded police protection for the couple rest with the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, a government panel.
"Any specific questions from official and State organizations about the courtesies which should be extended to the Duke and Duchess, and particularly where recourse to public funds may be required, should be directed to Buckingham Palace," the Lord Chamberlain wrote.
