Prince Harry returns to Britain but maintains demand for royal apology, sources say

Résumé

Friends close to Prince Harry say his recent return to the UK has not softened his anger toward the royal family, and he still expects an apology, while he and Meghan remain private, non-working royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in Birmingham with their children in early August, establishing a private residence in Britain and planning for the children to start school there in September. The couple will continue to keep homes in Montecito, California, and a vacation property in Portugal, and they remain non-working members of the royal family.

According to a Daily Mail report that cited unnamed friends of the Sussexes, Harry’s attitude toward the royal family has not changed since his 2020 departure. The source said Harry remains angry with certain relatives and the “men in grey suits” around King Charles, and still expects an apology for past grievances. The report added that Harry has not indicated he will issue a public apology for his own statements since stepping back.

Harry previously expressed a desire for reconciliation in a May 2025 BBC interview, saying he would love to end the dispute with his family and that the security-related legal case was the remaining obstacle. He had also said in a 2023 interview that he wanted accountability and an apology for his wife.

King Charles met privately with Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet at Highgrove in July, but the palace did not disclose details of the discussion. Relations with Prince William remain distant, with sources noting no recent contact between the brothers.

The move places Harry closer to UK-based charitable work, including WellChild, Scotty’s Little Soldiers and the Invictus Games, while Meghan continues her projects with As Ever and other initiatives.
