Trump says he will file FCC complaint against NBC journalist Kristen Welker

Resumen

President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he will report NBC's Kristen Welker to the Federal Communications Commission, alleging inaccurate reporting on his election endorsements.

President Donald Trump posted on his social-media platform that he intends to file a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) against NBC journalist Kristen Welker. Trump said Welker’s description of his endorsements in recent primaries as having “mixed results” was inaccurate and that the FCC should be notified for “rebuke or punishment.”

Welker, who hosts NBC’s weekly program Meet the Press and moderated the 2020 presidential debate, previously engaged in a contentious interview with Trump in which she questioned his claims about the 2020 election. Trump responded by accusing her and several news networks of bias.

The president has repeatedly threatened to use the FCC to challenge media outlets he deems to spread false information. Earlier this year, Disney, the parent company of ABC News, sued the FCC, alleging that an early license review of eight of its stations was retaliation for the network’s coverage. Trump has also filed multiple high-value defamation lawsuits against major newspapers, though several have been dismissed by courts.

The complaint against Welker comes amid broader legal actions targeting journalists, including recent subpoenas sought by the Department of Justice for reporters at The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post. A federal judge has criticized such subpoenas as infringing on First Amendment protections.
