Ukrainian drones strike residential buildings near Moscow and Sochi port

Resumen

Ukrainian drone attacks hit apartment blocks in the Moscow region and caused a fire at a factory, while a separate strike set fire to the Black Sea port of Sochi; Russian air defenses reported shooting down dozens of drones.

Ukrainian drones attacked several locations inside Russia overnight, targeting residential buildings in the Moscow region and a seaport in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, Russian officials said.

In Kubinka, about 60 km west of Moscow, a drone strike ignited a fire on the eighth and ninth floors of an apartment building, prompting the evacuation of ten residents. Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported no casualties. A second drone hit an apartment block on 1 Maya Street in Pavlovsky Posad, east of Moscow, breaking windows and leading to evacuations, he added. A separate incident caused a fire at an unnamed factory in Bolshoye Bunkovo, near Pavlovsky Posad.

Russian air defenses claimed to have destroyed 56 drones over the Moscow region, and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported dozens of drones heading toward the capital. Combined official statements said at least 94 drones were shot down since midnight, though the figures could not be independently verified.

Further south, monitoring channels released footage that appeared to show a fire at the Sochi seaport after a reported drone attack. Neither the Krasnodar Krai governor nor the Sochi mayor confirmed the incident, and details on damage or casualties were not immediately available.

Ukraine has increasingly employed long-range drones against military, industrial and energy targets inside Russia, stating the operations aim to diminish Moscow's capacity to continue its war against Ukraine. The attacks occurred as Russia maintains a sustained drone campaign against Kyiv, now in its eighth consecutive day.
