AMC and Regal to Re-Screen Dolly Parton Films in Tribute

Summary

AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas will show Dolly Parton's movies "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" and "Steel Magnolias" this weekend, with discounted tickets and proceeds supporting her Imagination Library program.

AMC Theatres announced that it will screen two of Dolly Parton's most popular films, the 1982 musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and the 1989 dramedy Steel Magnolias, from Friday through Wednesday. The showings will be offered at reduced prices as a tribute to the singer-songwriter, who died on Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

Regal Cinemas will also present the two movies in several Tennessee locations this weekend before expanding to a nationwide run on Sept. 5-6, with all proceeds earmarked for Parton's literacy initiative, the Imagination Library. > "Dolly has always had such a special connection to Tennessee, and Regal is proud to offer our guests a way to come together and celebrate the impact she’s had on our state and around the world," said Vikki Neil, Regal’s head of marketing. > "Bringing two of her films back to theatres while supporting the Imagination Library felt like a meaningful way to honor how she never forgot where she came from, even as her impact reached far beyond it."

The screenings will be held in Chattanooga, Clarksville, Hendersonville, Knoxville, Nashville and Tullahoma. The films feature Parton's performances alongside notable co-stars such as Burt Reynolds in Whorehouse and Sally Field in Steel Magnolias, and both movies received award nominations during their original releases.
