AMC Theatres to Show Two Dolly Parton Films in Philadelphia Area

Résumé

AMC will screen "Steel Magnolars" and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" at select Pennsylvania and New Jersey locations from Friday through Sept. 2, offering discounted tickets in tribute to the late singer-actress.

AMC Theatres announced a limited-time retrospective of Dolly Parton's film work, featuring screenings of the 1989 drama "Steel Magnolars" and the 1982 musical comedy "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." The showings begin on Friday and run through Sept. 2 at roughly 200 AMC locations nationwide, including the Cherry Hill 24 and Voorhees 16 theaters in New Jersey and the Neshaminy 24 in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. Tickets are being sold at reduced prices through the AMC website.

Parton appeared in several movies between 1980 and 2015, including "9 to 5," which earned her three Golden Globe nominations, and the two titles selected for the tribute, each of which also garnered a Golden Globe nod. The screenings come shortly after her death on Aug. 25 following a brief illness, according to a family spokesperson.

"We are honored to celebrate Dolly Parton's contributions to film with these screenings," an AMC spokesperson said.

The initiative joins other public recognitions of Parton's career, which spanned music, film and television and included ten Grammy wins and 55 nominations.
