CNN apologizes after using image of Dolly Parton impersonator in coverage
CNN issued an apology after mistakenly showing a photo of a Las Vegas Dolly Parton impersonator instead of the singer herself while reporting on her death.
CNN said it had erred by broadcasting a picture of a tribute performer rather than the late country star during a segment on the singer's death. The mistake occurred on the program "Laura Coates Live," where an image of impersonator Kelly Vohnn was shown while reporting that Dolly Parton had died at age 80. > "We regret the error and apologize to the Parton family," a CNN spokesperson told USA Today. Vohnn, who appeared in the 2023 documentary Song Sung Blue with other impersonators, posted a video urging media outlets to exercise "better due diligence" and noting she had not authorized her likeness to be used as if she were Parton. > "I would never fool people that way," she said, adding that audiences are aware they are paying to see an impersonator.
